LaGrange celebrated Senior Day and closed out the 2014 season with a 8-0 and 7-4 sweep of Wesleyan on Saturday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex.
Seniors Courtney Beshel and Amanda Stukel were honored between games. Beshel hit her second home run of the season along with a triple and drove in three runs in the second game. Stukel had five hits in the doubleheader, including going 3-for-3 in the second game.
The Panthers ended the season with a six-game winning streak to finish 28-14. The 28 wins were the second most for the Panthers in the NCAA era, going back to 2001.
Olivia Wolfe (14-7) threw a complete-game two-hitter in the first game, striking out a season-high 11 batters. Wolfe,s 14 wins tied for the fifth most in a season by a Panther pitcher.
Wolfe had a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove in another run at the plate. Dani Gravett also had an RBI double as the Panthers had nine hits in the game.
Beshel capped a three-run first inning in the second game with a two-run home run to left field. In the fourth, Danielle Newbern doubled in two runs for a 6-2 lead.
The Panthers closed out the scoring in the sixth inning. Newbern reached on a one-out error. One batter later, Beshel tripled into the right field corner on her final at-bat, scoring Newbern for the 7-4 final.
The Panthers had 12 hits in the game. In addition to Stukel, Jordan Conner also went 3-for-3, including a double. Kalin Oglesby had two hits and scored a run.
