LaGrange staged a last inning rally to beat Agnes Scott 8-7 to complete a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Panthers (24-14) won the first game 5-1.
Kara Patterson (5-1) picked up a win in the second game and her team-leading fourth save of the season in the first game.
Alison Jiles drove in five runs on three hits, including her seventh home run of the season, in the second game.
Jiles staked the Panthers to a 4-0 lead with a two-run single in the first inning, followed by a two-run home run to left center in the third.
The Scotties (19-19) came back with five runs in the top of the fifth to go up 6-5. In the Panthers' half of the fifth, Jiles doubled into the right field corner, driving in Kalin Oglesby to tie the game 6-6.
Agnes Scott got an unearned run in the seventh to go back up 7-6. Dani Gravett started the Panthers' rally with a triple down the right field line.
Danielle Newbern reached on an infield hit and Jiles walked to load the bases. Courtney Beshel flew out deep enought to right to allow pinch runner Savannah Thomley to score the tying run.
Patterson followed with a grounder to second and Newbern beat the tag for the game-winning run.
The Panthers finished with 14 hits in the game, with Newbern also having three hits, including a double. Patterson was 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Panthers grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first game with a four-run second inning. They loaded the bases with one out. Jiles and Courtney Beshel each drew walks to force in the first two runs. Christy Flick beat out an infield hit to bring in the third run and Adrienne Little capped the inning with an RBI single.
In the fourth, the Panthers closed out the scoring. Jiles' single scored Gravett, who led off the inning with a base hit to make it 5-1.
Olivia Wolfe (13-7) pitched four innings to get the win. Wolfe allowed a run on five hits, walking two and striking out two.
Patterson closed out the game with three scoreless innings of relief. She gave up two hits, while striking two and not walking a batter.
