LaGrange came from behind twice to down Elmira 5-4 in the second game of a doubleheader to complete a sweep of the visiting Eagles at the LaGrange College Softball Complex on Thursday.
The Panthers had to come from behind twice in the second game. They trailed 2-0 and 3-2 before pushing across two runs in the sixth to take the lead for good.
Olivia Wolfe started on the mound for the Panthers. She pitched five solid innings, allowing only a two-run home run to the Eagles' Emily Carlin.
Elmira (1-5) took that 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth. The Panthers pushed across three runs off reliever Alex Puglisi with a pair of hits and taking advantage of an Eagle error.
Adrienne Little walked to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a passed ball for the first run. Courtney Beshel put the Panthers ahead with a two-run bases-loaded single, scoring Brooke Turner and Lindsey Hogan for a 3-2 lead.
But the Eagles came back with two runs in the top of the sixth inning off Panther reliever Amanda Stukel (1-0) to retake the lead, 4-3.
In the Panthers half of the sixth, Christy Flick led off with a single. She stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Little's RBI hit. With two outs and two on, Turner reached on an error, allowing Little to score the go-ahead run.
Hogan came on to pitch the seventh for the Panthers. She allowed a leadoff hit then retired the Eagles in order to complete the come-from-behind win.
The Panthers started the day with a 3-1 win in the first game. Sophomore Kara Patterson (1-0) pitched a complete game, allowing only an unearned run. She walked two and struck out two.
The Panthers did all of their scoring in the second inning. They took advantage of three Eagle errors in the inning, leading to all the runs being unearned. Amanda Morier's sacrifice fly to left field drove in the third run of the inning.
Elmira got a run back in the fourth inning to cut the Panthers' lead to 3-1. The Panthers turned two double plays in the final three innings to back Patterson's pitching.
