GREENSBORO, N.C. - Keeley Murray's home run lifted LaGrange to a 3-2 win over Greensboro in the first game of a USA South doubleheader Sunday. The host Pride salvaged a split with a 2-1 win in the second game.
The split left the Panthers 18-8 overall and 9-7 in the USA South. Greensboro is now 12-12 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Olivia Wolfe pitched a complete game in the first game to raise her record to 10-3. She allowed two runs in the first inning, then shutout the Pride over the next six innings.
Trailing 2-0, the Panthers tied the game with two runs in the second inning. They loaded the bases with three straight singles. Brooke Turner drew a walk, forcing in Dani Gravett with the first run. Danielle Newbern scored the tying run as Murray reached on a fielder's choice.
Murray put the Panthers ahead to stay in the fifth inning. She led off the inning with her first home of the season, a shot to center field for a 3-2 lead.
The Pride rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Jackie Nicholson singled with two outs. Sarah Connolly followed with a double to left. The game ended as Kalin Oglesby took Adrienne Little's throw from the outfield and threw to Alison Jiles to get Nicholson at the plate for the final out.
In the second game, Jiles' RBI single in the third inning put the Panthers up 1-0. Jiles' hit scored Turner, who had walked to start the inning.
Greensboro scored both of its runs in the sixth inning. The Pride were aided by a Panther error in the inning.
Dani Gravett pitched 4-2/3 shutout innings for the Panthers. Amanda Stukel (1-1) took the loss, allowing both runs, withh one being unearned.
The Panthers play at Maryville in a USA South doubleheader next Saturday.
