MARION, Ala. - Stellar pitching by Dani Gravett and Kara Patterson led LaGrange to a sweep of Judson on Thursday. Gravett and Patterson both threw complete games as the Panthers (26-14) beat the host Eagles 6-2 and 8-0.
Gravett (6-5) recorded a career high 12 strikeouts in the first game. She gave up four hits and walked just one.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Gravett and the Panthers. Gravett surrendered three hits in the inning, but shut down the Eagles the rest of the way on just one hit.
The Panthers went without a hit the first three innings, but banged out 12 the rest of the way.
The Panthers got on the board in the fourth on an RBI single by Courtney Beshel. They would take the lead for good in the fifth inning.
With the bases loaded and two out, Jordan Conner doubled to left center driving in Kalin Oglesby and Brooke Turner for a 3-2 lead.
The Panthers added a run in the sixth with the help of two Judson errors in the inning. In the seventh, they got two insurance runs on base hits by Danielle Newbern and Amanda Stukel.
Patterson also threw a four-hitter in the second game. She gave up three of the hits in the first two innings. Patterson walked only one and struck out three in the game.
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Beshel had a run-scoring double and Adrienne Little's fly out plated the second run.
The Panthers added two runs in the second and another in the third, aided by four Eagle errors.
In the sixth, the Panthers tacked on three two-out runs to go up 8-0. With the bases loaded and two outs, Savannah Thomley reached on an error to keep the inning going. Turner with a two-run single to right center for the final two runs.
Patterson started a double play on a line drive back to the mound in the seventh, then retired the final batter to end the game on the 8-run mercy rule.
The Panthers host Wesleyan for Senior Day on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
