The LaGrange softball team was picked fifth in the USA South West Division preseason poll. The Panthers were 9-5 in conference play and 15-25 overall in 2018. They reached the USA South tournament for the fifth time in the past six years.
Sophomore outfielder Brittany Todd led the team with 3 home runs and 22 RBIs as a freshman, while batting .315. She also had a team-best .527 slugging percentage and stole 11 bases in 12 attempts. Junior outfielder McKenzie Brunel was selected to the USA South All-West Division team for the second straight year despite missing the final 21 games of the season. She batted .413 and had a .491 on-base percentage along with 13 bases. Senior outfielder Carolyn Harkness led the team with 14 stolen bases and batted .365 in 31 games.
Defending division and tournament champion Maryville is first in the West Division poll. The Scots are followed by Piedmont, Covenant, Huntingdon, and the Panthers.
LC opens the 2019 season Feb. 24 with a doubleheader at Agnes Scott. The Panthers host USA South foes Meredith and William Peace in USA South doubleheaders March 2-3.
