LaGrange swept visiting Wesleyan 4-2 and 7-2 in a USA South doubleheader Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex. The wins evened the Panthers' record at 7-7 and upped their overall record to 11-13. Wesleyan (6-20, 1-13 USA South) had its losing streak extended to 16 games.
Game 1
LC broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fifth inning and made it stand up for the 4-2 victory. Taylor Long led off the fifth with a single and came around to score the go-ahead run on Brittany Todd's RBI double. Sydney Hodorff followed with a base hit, driving in Todd with the second run of the inning. Payton Thomas (4-5) got the win in relief of Emsley Smith. Thomas threw three shutout innings, allowing two hits, three walks, and striking out one.
Game 2
Thomas (5-5) picked up her second win of the day with four scoreless innings. She gave up three hits, walked four, and struck out one. LC got two runs in the first and three more in the second to build a 5-0 lead. Wesleyan cut it to 5-2 with two in the fifth. The Panthers got insurance runs in the sixth on an RBI triple from Todd and Lauren DeLoach's run-scoring double.
The Panthers host Judson in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. It will be Senior Day.
