Visiting Maryville took two USA South games from LaGrange on Saturday at the LC Softball Complex. The Panthers (6-10, 2-6 USA South) lost 8-4 in the first game and 6-3 in eight innings in the second.
Game 1
Maryville (16-8, 8-0 USA South) scored seven runs in the fourth inning off Kristina Calixto (1-1) to wipe out a 3-0 LC lead. The Panthers scored three runs in the first inning, needing just one hit. With one out and the bases loaded, Lauren DeLoach dropped a single over first base to drive in Carolyn Harkness and Sydney Hodord. Kaitlin Redman came home when DeLoach took second on a wild pitch for the final run of the inning. Haley Coleman's two-out RBI double in the fifth made it 7-4. Coleman had two of LC's four hits. The Scots added an insurance run in the seventh for the 8-4 final. Katlyn Smith (11-3) went the distance to get the win for Maryville. Smith walked seven and struck out seven, throwing 165 pitches in the game.
Game 2
The Panthers led 1-0 after an inning in the second game. Taylor Long reached on a bunt single, then stole second and third. Sydney Hodorff's sacrifice fly drove in Long with the first run of the game. With the game tied 1-1, Hodorff led off the fourth with a double and was replaced by pinch-runner Karli Whitaker. Coleman's two-out RBI single to right scored Whitaker for a 2-1 lead. Maryville came back with two runs off starter Payton Thomas to go up 3-2 in the top of the sixth. The Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Hodorff started the inning with a single, then moved up to second on a ground out and over to third on a fly out. For the third time in the doubleheader Coleman had a two-out hit to drive in a run as Hodorff scored to make it 3-3. In the top of the eighth, the Scots pushed across three runs off reliever Emsley Smith (3-6) to go up 6-3. Smith picked up her second win of the day with 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
The Panthers host Agnes Scott in a USA South doubleheader Monday beginning at 3 p.m.
