Taylor Long's walk off hit lifted LaGrange to a 6-5 win and a sweep of Fontbonne on Friday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Panthers (2-4) run-ruled the Griffins (0-7) 9-1 in the first game of the day.
Game 1
Long went 4-for-4 with four RBIs to pace the Panthers' 11-hit attack. LC spotted Fontbonne a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Panthers came back with two runs in the third, three in the fourth and closed out the game on the run-rule with four runs in the fifth. Long had a two-run double in the fourth and a two-run single in the fifth. Kelsey Dietz was 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Madelynn Fomby had a double. Emsley Smith (1-3) gave up a run and three hits in four innings to get the win. Ivy 'Grant pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
Game 2
The Panthers came from behind twice to complete the sweep. Kaitlin Redman gave LC a 2-0 lead in the second inning with her first collegiate home run and the team's first of the season. The Griffins came back with three runs off starter Payton Thomas. Formby, who went 3-for-3, put LC up 4-3 with a two-run base hit in the fourth. After falling behind 5-4, the Panthers tied the game in the sixth on Formby's third hit of the game, scoring Brittany Todd. In the seventh, Sydney Hodorff reached on a two-out error to keep the inning going. Long then beat out an infield hit to short as Landon DeLamar came home with the winning run.
The Panthers host Huntingdon in a USA South doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m.
