Visiting Huntingdon took a USA South doubleheader from LaGrange on Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex. The Hawk won the first game 8-0 in five innings, then edged the Panthers 3-2 in Game 2.
Game 1
Madison Hunt and Ashley Carroll combined for a one-hitter to take the first game. The Hawks scored six runs in the first inning off starter Emsley Smith (3-5). Brittany Todd had the Panthers' only hit.
Game 2
Hunt (10-2) and LC's Payton Thomas (2-3) had a pitcher's duel in the second game. Hunt scattered nine hits and gave up two unearned runs. Thomas held the Hawks to just five hits, surrendered two earned runs, walked seven, and struck out two. The Hawks built a 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Long and Carolyn Harkness had back-to-back one-out hits. Long stole third, then came home on a throwing error as Harkness ended up at third on the play. Brittany Todd drove in Harkness with a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 3-2. Long reached with two out in the seventh before Hunt got the game's final out. Long and Harkness each had three hits. Kelsey Dietz added a double in three trips to the plate.
The Panthers host Maryville in a USA South doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
