BREVARD, N.C. - LaGrange swept a USA South doubleheader from Brevard on Saturday. The Panthers rallied in their last at-bat to win Game 1 5-4, then completed the sweep with a 12-3 thumping of the Tornados in the second game.
Game 1
LC (9-11, 5-7 USA South) fell behind 4-1 and still trailed 4-2 heading to their final at-bat. Taylor Long drove in Landon DeLamar with a double to score the first run of the inning. The tying and go-ahead runs came on wild pitches. Kaitlin Redmond scored first, then McKenzie Brunel came home next to put LC up 5-4. Brevard got the tying run as far as third in the bottom of the inning before Payton Thomas (3-4) got the final out. Thomas pitched five innings in relief of Kristina Calixto, allowing an unearned run. Long, Sydney Hodorff, and Michaela Keel each had two hits.
Game 2
The Panthers exploded for six runs in the second inning and never looked back. Hodorff capped the big inning with a three-run home run, her second of the season. Hodorff added a double later and finished the game with four RBIs. Haley Coleman led LC's 13-hit attack with three hits. DeLlamar had a triple included in her two hits. Emsley Smith (5-6) scattered seven hits and allowed three runs in five innings to get the win. Ansley Brown threw two scoreless innings of relief.
The Panthers host Wesleyan on Wednesday in a USA South doubleheader.
