MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange improved to 6-0 with a 9-4 victory over Oglethorpe at the Firehouse Classic at Huntingdon College on Sunday.
Tavin Thompson led the Panthers with two hits, including his first home run at LC, and four RBIs. James Poropatic was 2-for-2, including a double, scored three runs, and drove in two. Chad Pigg also finished with two hits as the Panthers had 10 in the game.
Ryan Broaderick (1-0) pitched six innings to pick up the win. He allowed three runs, walked one, and struck out three. Dax Willingham surrendered a run in two innings, and Austin Perez pitched a scorless ninth inning.
The Panthers broke open the game in the fourth inning. Leading 2-1, they put up four more runs to pad their lead. Poropatic drove in two with a bases-loaded double, followed by back-to-back RBI singles from Thompson and Casey Bell.
Thompson closed out the scoring for the Panthers in the top of the eighth. Poropatic walked to lead off the inning and Thompson followed with a two-run shot to left field to make it 9-3.
The Panthers host sixth-ranked Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
