WEST POINT, Ga. - Andrew Weekley and Jonathan Fleckenstein combined on a four-hitter as No. 3 LaGrange blanked Maryville 3-0 on Friday in the USA South Tournament. The top-seeded Panthers (33-4) advance to face N.C. Wesleyan on Friday at 12 p.m. at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium.
Weekley pitched into the ninth before allowing a lead off single. He struck out a team season high 10 without walking a batter. He retired 10 in a row between the second and fifth inning and allowed only two Scots to reach second base. Fleckenstein picked up his second save in as many days by closing out the ninth to preserve the Panthers' second shutout of the season.
The Panthers did all of their scoring in the eighth inning. Blake Butcher walked to lead off the inning. Pinch-hitter Kyle Gutowski bunted his way on. Blane Swift's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up and Cain Sauls was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Butcher came home with the first run of the game on a bunt single by Chad Pigg. Joe Pradat followed with a two-run single to right, scoring Gutowski and Sauls to make it 3-0.
Pradat was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double. The Panthers finished with seven hits.
