JACKSON, Miss. - LaGrange swept a non-conference doubleheader against Rhodes and Fontbonne (Mo.) on Saturday at Millsaps College.
The Panthers (8-1) defeated Rhodes (3-3) for the second time this season, winning 8-4. LC built a 7-0 lead after five innings.
Cain Sauls hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Casey Bell had two doubles included in his three hits. Blake Butcher also had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. The Panthers finished with 12 hits.
Ryan Broaderick (2-0) and Colin Barrett combined to limit the Lynx to just four hits. Broaderick worked the first six innings. He gave up two runs on three hits, while striking seven and walking two. Barrett finished the game, giving up two runs on a hit.
In the second game, LaGrange led 3-1 after two innings. The Panthers broke the game open with a six-run third inning. Bell capped the big inning with a two-run home run, his second of the season.
Butcher, Billy Peatross, and Blane Swift each had two hits in the game. Bell, Butcher, Swift, and James Poropatic all had two RBIs.
Zach English (2-0) allowed a run in six innings. He gave up four hits, walked one and struck out five. Dawson Weaver gave up an unearned run in two innings, while Stephen Coelho pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
The Panthers finish their weekend trip to Jackson on Sunday against the University of Dallas.
