Senior Ryan Broaderick threw a complete game shutout as No. 4 LaGrange blanked Hampden-Sydney 6-0 on Friday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers' 10th straight win upped their record to 24-2, while the Tigers slipped to 13-8.
Broaderick threw the first complete game and shutout for the Panthers this season. He scattered six hits, struck out a season-high nine batters, while walking one. Broaderick worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth as the Panthers did not commit an error in the game and turned a double play behind him.
Billy Peatross drove in the first run of the game in the first inning with a single. Peatross's base hit scored Tavin Thompson, who led off the inning with a single and had three of the Panthers' nine hits.
The Panthers made it 2-0 in the second without benefit of a hit. James Poropatic's ground out brought home Chad Pigg, who walked to start the inning.
Blake Butcher's solo home run in the fifth stretched the lead to 3-0. It was Butcher's team-leading fourth home run of the season.
LaGrange doubled its lead to 6-0 with a three-run sixth. Thompson had a RBI single in the inning, as the Tigers committed two errors that led to all three runs being unearned.
The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
