FERRUM, Va. - Kayla Folds' two-hitter was not enough as Ferrum took both ends of a USA South doubleheader from LaGrange. The host Panthers edged Folds 1-0 in the first game, then won the second 6-3.
The Panthers (6-4, 2-2 USA South) had seven hits in both games. Laura Webber had two hits and drove in two runs for the Panthers in the second game. Maddie Kolovich had two hits in the first game.
In the first game, Folds gave up a second inning home run to Suzanne Plasters for the game's only run. She finished the game with six strikeouts and walked only one.
The Panthers did all of their scoring in the first inning of the second game. Danielle Newbern led off the game with a double. Two outs later, Newbern scored on Dani Gravett's base hit.
Gravett moved up on a passed ball and Courtney Beshel's double put runners on second and third. Webber followed with a two-run single to left to make it 3-0.
Ferrum (11-5, 2-0 USA South) tied the game with three runs off Gravett in the bottom of the first. The host Panthers added two more runs off reliever Kara Patterson (0-1) to take the lead for good.
The Panthers host Huntingdon on Thursday in a doubheader beginning at 5 p.m.
