RALEIGH, N.C. - Kayla Foldspitched LaGrange to a sweep of William Peace in a USA South doubleheader Saturday. The Panthers (14-14, 9-11 USA South) won the first game 8-3, then completed the sweep with a 4-0 shutout.
Folds picked up both wins on the mound for the Panthers. She threw a complete game in the second game after coming within an out of one in the first game.
In the two games, Folds pitched 13-2/3 innings, allowing just one earned run. She struck out 13 and walked only two.
The Panthers banged out 12 hits in each game. Courtney Beshel, Dani Gravett and Kalin Oglesbyeach had four hits in the twinbill.
Beshel powered the Panthers in the first game. She hit her team-lead third home run of the season in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. She capped a three-run fourth inning with a two-run single.
The Panthers added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Danielle Newbern, who had three hits in the game. They closed out the scoring in the seventh with run-scoring base hits from Oglesby and Allison Coats.
The Panthers broke a scoreless tie in the second game with a three-run fifth inning. Newbern reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to bring in the first run. Laura Webber and Kelbi Burgering forced bases-loaded walks to force in two more runs for a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers added an insurance run in the seventh inning. Linsey Hogan stayed in a rundown long enough for Sammy Murrah to score the Panthers' final run.
The Panthers close out the their USA South schedule with a doubleheader at Meredith in Raleigh.
