LaGrange and visiting Agnes Scott swapped shutouts Thursday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Panthers won the first game 4-0, while the Scotties came back to take the second game by the same score.
The Panthers (19-19) got a complete game two-hitter from Kayla Folds (12-7) in the first game. Folds walked only one and struck out five in recording her third shutout and eighth complete game of the season.
The Panthers gave Folds all the runs she would need in the first inning. Sending eight batters to the plate, the Panthers took a quick 3-0 lead.
Kalin Oglesby reached on an error and Dani Gravett bunted her way on to start the inning. Both runners moved up on a fly out by Courtney Beshel. Danielle Newbern drove in both runners with a single up the middle. Newbern later scored as Folds reached on a fielder's choice to make it 3-0.
The Panthers closed out their scoring in the fourth inning. Kelbi Burgering singled with one out and was safe at second on an error as Jordan Conner reached. Oglesby brought in Burgering with the first of her two hits to up the Panthers' lead to 4-0.
Folds did not allow a hit until the fifth inning when Kat Riale singled to center to start the inning. Avi Greene had the other Agnes Scott hit in the sixth.
In the second game, the Scotties' Casey Arnold held the Panthers to an infield single by Newbern to lead off the fifth inning. Kara Patterson and Christy Flick reached on walks off Arnold.
Folds started and went four innings in the second game, allowing three runs on six hits. Flick pitched the final three innings, giving up a run on four hits.
The Panthers host third-ranked Emory on Saturday for Senior Day. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. with the senior ceremony between games.
