North Carolina Wesleyan won a second game pitching duel 1-0 to complete a sweep of LaGrange in a USA South doubleheader Sunday. The Bishops (7-7, 4-2 USA South) won the first game 11-1 in five innings.
Freshman Kara Patterson (0-1) pitched a complete game in the second game to take the tough luck loss for the Panthers (7-9, 2-6 USA South). Patterson scattered five hits, gave up the one run, walked one and struck out four.
The Panthers were held to hits by Danielle Newbern and Laura Webber by the Bishops' Kelsi Bailey. Bailey walked six and struck out three in also going the distance to get the win.
Kalin Oglesby had two of the Panthers' six hits in the first game. Christy Flick drove in Dani Gravett with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Gravett (4-4) started on the mound for the Panthers and gave up four unearned runs in two innings. Kayla Folds threw the final three innings, giving up seven runs but only four were earned.
The Panthers play at Piedmont on Wednesday in a USA South doubleheader.
