ATLANTA, Ga. – LaGrange College lost its 2010-11 season opener 67-50 to Oglethorpe University at Dorough Field House on Monday.
Nic Whitfield led the Panthers with 16 points. Marcus Vaughn added 13 points. Both players had seven rebounds each.
Oglethorpe's Alec Pitts led all scorers with 20 points, making 4-of-6 three-pointers. Todd Ward had a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Panthers could not overcome a cold-shooting first half. The Panthers made only 5-of-24 shots from the floor, shooting 20.8 percent. They finished the game shooting 32.1 percent.
Oglethorpe (1-0) led 38-17 at half time. Jerod Howard's 3-pointer gave the Panthers a 7-4 lead. The Stormy Petrels went on a 16-2 run to take the lead for good.
The Panthers host the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Panthers face Centre on Friday at 7 p.m. and Texas-Tyler on Saturday at 4 p.m.
