MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Marcus Vaughn scored the go-ahead basket in the closing seconds of overtime to lift LaGrange to a 79-75 win over top-seeded Maryville in the GSAC Championship Tournament at Roland Arena on Friday.
The Panthers' first ever win over the Scots put them in the championship game Saturday at 3 p.m. CST against the winner of the Piedmont-Huntingdon game. It will be the Panthers' second straight appearance in the championship game.
All five of the Panthers' starters scored in double figures. Nic Whitfield led the Panthers with 17 points. Vaughn, Blake Craft and Denzel Robinson all had 14 points. Stephen Spivey had a double-double of 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Panthers shot 53.3 percent in the first half and led 37-32 at halftime. Maryville's Eryk Watson, who led all scorers with 32 points, sent the game into overtime with a tying 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left in regulation.
