The 2015 LaGrange softball team held a ring ceremony recently to celebrate their USA South Tournament championship. Players, coaches, families, and friends gathered at the LaGrange Art Museum for the ceremony.
Graduated seniors Danielle Newbern and Olivia Wolfe helped lead the Panthers to their first USA South championship and reach the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the fourth time. Newbern, a USA South All-Conference second team selection, batted .374 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. Wolfe batted .293 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs, while posting a 12-11 record with a 2.86 ERA on the mound.
This season the Panthers return senior first baseman/pitcher Dani Gravett, junior catcher Alison Jiles, and senior shortstop Kalin Oglesby.
Gravett was on the USA South All-Conference honorable mention team last season. She led the team in batting with a .386 average, while hitting six home runs and driving in 23 runs. On the mound, Gravett was 9-1 with a 3.46 ERA. Jiles was an All-Conference first team selection last season after batting .300 with three home runs and 23 RBIs. Oglesby batted .323 and was named to the NCAA Atlanta Regional All-Tournament team, while making just four errors in 151 chances at shortstop.
The Panthers open their 2016 season Feb. 18 with a doubleheader at Judson (Ala.).
