William Peace took a USA South doubleheader from LaGrange on Saturday at the LC Softball Complex, winning 7-6 in the first game and 4-3 in eight innings in the second game.
The losses left the Panthers 6-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Panthers will host Meredith in another USA South doubleheaders Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Panthers trailed 4-1 in the first game. The tied the game with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by Carolyn Harkness' two-run triple.
Trailing 5-4 in the sixth, the Panthers came back to take the lead. Dani Gravett's two-out two-run home run put the Panthers up 6-5.
However, the lead was short lived. Lindsey Coley's two-run home run off Emily Cauldwell (1-3) in the top of the seventh gave the Pacers (18-6, 7-1 USA South) the lead for good.
In the second game, the Panthers got a run in the first and another in the third to lead 2-1. Gravett's second home run of the day and fourth of the season gave the Panthers the lead.
But Morgan Bryant hit a two-run home run in the sixth off Kara Patterson (1-1) to put the Pacers back in front 3-2.
The Panthers loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh. But reliever Kim Cook struck out two straight batters. Adrienne Little battled Cook in a 10-pitch at-bat before drawing a walk and forcing in Kalin Oglesby with the tying run.
In the eighth, it looked like the Panthers might get out of a jam. The Pacers put runners on second and third with no outs. But both runners were erased on one play, only to have Coley drop a single into right field to drive in the go-ahead run.
