MARYVILLE, Tenn. - LaGrange picked up its first USA South win in splitting a conference doubleheader Saturday against Maryville.
The Panthers (5-5, 1-3 USA South) got the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to win the first game 3-2. The Scots (7-7, 3-1 USA South) used a five-run sixth inning to take the second game 7-4.
Dani Gravett (3-2) went the distance in the first game. She scattered nine hits, walked two, and struck out one. At the plate, she had two hits and scored a run.
Maryville got a run in the first inning to lead 1-0. The Panthers came back in the third with two runs to go up 2-1.
The Panthers loaded the bases with two outs. Maegan Harrison, who had three hits, singled to left to drive in the tying run. Kalin Oglesby came around to score on the play when the ball was mishandled in the outfield.
The Scots tied the game in the fifth. It remained tied until the seventh. Gravett reached on an infield single and Harrison moved her over to third with a base hit. Adrienne Little's sacrifice fly brought in Gravett with the go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the inning, Gravett pitched around a one-out walk to secure the win.
The Panthers came from behind twice in the second game. Trailing 1-0, they tied the game in the fourth. Oglesby reached on an error to start the inning and later scored on a wild pitch.
Maryville retook the lead with a run in the fourth. The Panthers answered in the top of the fifth. Sydney Hodorff led off with a double and scored on Jessica Smith's RBI single.
The Scots came back with a five-run sixth inning to go up 7-2. Hodorff closed out the scoring with her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the seventh for the 7-4 final.
The Panthers host nationally-ranked Berry on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
