Huntingdon downed LaGrange in a USA South doubleheader Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex. The Lady Hawks took the first game 3-1, then came from behind to win the second game 5-3.
The Panthers are 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play. They will play at Maryville on Saturday in a USA South doubleheader.
Dani Gravett (2-2) took the loss in the first game. She went the distance, allowing the three runs but only two were earned. Gravett surrendered seven hits, walked two and struck out five.
The Lady Hawks (8-6, 2-0 USA South) took advantage of a couple of close calls in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Panthers, who left 12 on base, got a run back in the fourth.
The Panthers got a lead off double by Adrienne Little, then back-to-back singles from Kalin Oglesby and Carolyn Harkness to load the bases. Little was out at home as Gravett reached on a fielder's choice. Maegan Harrison was hit by a pitch to force in Oglesby to make it 2-1.
Huntingdon added an insurance run on a home run by Katrina Harden in the seventh for the 3-1 final.
The Panthers finished with seven hits. Olgesby and Harkness each had three hits.
In the second game, the Panthers went up 1-0 in the first inning. They loaded the bases with two outs. Oglesby, who led off the inning with a walk, came home on a wild pitch for the game's first run.
The Lady Hawks got a run in the second and another in the fourth off starter Emily Cauldwell, who went five innings.
The Panthers regained the lead with two runs in their half of the fourth. Hannah Kadel's single drove in Little, who had singled to start the inning, to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Oglesby walked on four pitches to force in Kelsey Dietz with the go-ahead run.
Huntingdon took advantage of a couple of Panther miscues to score two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to retake the lead. Katelyn Little (0-2) took the loss for the Panthers.
