Senior softball player Dani Gravett is the recepient of the LaGrange College Eagle Award, presented at the annual athletics ceremony in Callaway Auditorium on Wednesday. The award is given to the year's outstanding male and female athletes.
The award reads:"For Outstanding Efforts—You have accepted the challenge to soar above the world and to succeed where others might falter. You have been decisive where others have hesitated. You are recognized as a leader for your efforts. Truly, you are an inspiration like the Majestic Eagle."
Gravett is an exercise science major from Newnan, Ga., and will pursue an advanced degree in occupational therapy after graduation. She was a four-year starter for the Panthers as a first baseman and pitcher.
Gravett was twice selected to the USA South All-Conference second team and was the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 USA South Tournament. She was on the USA South Academic All-Conference team for four straight years. Gravett was the team's Most Valuable Player the past three years. In 2016, she was first or second on the team in almost every offensive and defensive category, including: batting average (.376), home runs (6), RBIs (35), pitching wins (9), and fielding percentage (.994). Gravett ranks in the top 10 on 13 school career softball lists.
Gravett has worked as a volunteer in numerous community service projects, including: Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, Phillipines service trip, Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, and Teen Maze. She is a member of Phi Mu, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and Social Council.
