Berry used a big inning to down LaGrange 16-5 in five innings Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex.
The Panthers (5-6) played the 10th-ranked Vikings (14-1) to a 5-5 tie through four innings. The Panthers had fallen behind 5-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth.
In the inning, the Panthers took advantage of three Viking errors to score four unearned runs to tie the game. Carolyn Harkness kept the inning going with a two-out RBI bunt single to make it 5-3. Dani Gravett followed with a game-tying two-run double to the gap in left field.
But Berry came back with an 11-run explosion in the fifth. The Vikings sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning, as the game ended on the 8-run mercy rule.
Gravett (3-3) started and took the loss for the Panthers, pitching into the fifth. Emily Cauldwell and Katelyn Little finished the fifth.
The Panthers had five hits in the game. Gravett had two, including the double, and drove in three runs. Grayson West also had a double for the Panthers.
The Panthers are off until next Wednesday when they host Wesleyan in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
