N.C. Wesleyan took a pair of USA South games from LaGrange on Sunday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex.
The Bishops (15-13, 12-6 USA South) won the first game 4-0, then edged the Panthers (13-14, 6-10 USA South) 7-6 in the second game.
In the second game, the Panthers came from behind twice to tie the game before the Bishops took the lead for good.
The Bishops jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Panthers answered in their half of the second inning.
The Panthers loaded the bases with two outs. Dani Gravett cleared the bases with a triple to left center to make it 3-3.
N.C. Wesleyan regained the lead in the third inning with two runs. The Panthers came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Jessica Smith and Kalin Oglesby had RBI singles in the inning.
The Bishops got two runs in the fourth inning for a 7-5 lead. The Panthers got a run back in the sixth to make it 7-6 when Michaela Kell walked with the bases loaded, but it was as close as the Panthers would get.
The Panthers finished with nine hits in the game. Gravett and Smith each had two hits.
Gravett (8-5) went the distance for the Panthers in the first game. She gave up eight hits and only three of the runs were earned. Gravett walked five and struck out seven.
The Panthers had five hits in the game. Adrienne Little had a double for the Panthers' only extra base hit.
The Panthers close out the USA South conference portion of their schedule with doubleheaders at Covenant and Piedmont next Friday and Saturday.
