LaGrange split a non-conference doubleheader with Wesleyan on Wednesday night at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Panthers (6-7) won the first game 8-0 before Wesleyan (4-14) took the second game 5-3.
Senior Dani Gravett (4-3) threw a complete game three-hitter in the first game. The Panthers backed her pitching with a 13-hit attack.
Freshman Maegan Harrison had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Adrienne Little, Kalin Oglesby, and Brook Turner each had two hits. Little had a double and Oglesby a triple included in their hits.
Leading 1-0, the Panthers broke the first game open with a five-run second inning. Jessica Smith drove in the first two runs of the inning with a double. Grayson West added an RBI single, followed by Oglesby's run scoring triple. Oglesby scored the final run as Gravett grounded out to short.
The Panthers ended the game in the sixth inning on the 8-run mercy rule. Harrison's two-run double to the gap in right field drove in pinch-runner Delani White and Gravett for the 8-0 final.
In the second game, the Wolves took a 1-0 lead on Bella Bravo's lead off home run in the first off Emily Cauldwell (1-2). Gravett answered for the Panthers in the bottom of the inning with her second home run of the season to tie it 1-1.
The Wolves came back with three runs in the second and another run in the fifth to go up 5-1. The Panthers got a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to make it 5-3.
Ashley Chafin led off the fifth with a single and later scored on Carolyn Harkness' ground out. in the sixth, Gravett had a double to start the inning and scored on Turner's infield hit. The Panthers got a two-out single by Oglesby in the seventh before Mellissa Webb (4-7) got the final out.
The Panthers host William Peace and Meredith in USA South conference doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday beginning at noon each day.
