LaGrange topped Meredith 8-7 and 4-2 to sweep a USA South conference doubleheader Sunday at the LC Softball Complex.
The Panthers upped their record to 8-9 and 3-5 in conference play. The Panthers are tied with Greensboro for eighth in the conference standings. The two teams play in Greensboro, N.C. next weekend. The Panthers will also visit Averett.
Dani Gravett pitched and batted the Panthers past the Avenging Angels (12-12, 2-6 USA South) in the first game. At the plate, she had two hits, including a double, and drove in five runs. She improved to 5-3 by going five innings, allowing four runs, three of those earned. Gravett scattered six hits, walked four and struck out three.
The Panthers took the lead for good in the fourth inning. Down 3-2, Kalin Olgesby tied the game with a double, and Gravett followed with a two-run single to make it 5-3.
Leading 5-4, the Panthers got some insurance runs in the fifth. Gravett cleared the bases with a three-run double to up the lead to 8-4. Meredith got three runs back in the sixth but the Panthers held on for the 8-7 win.
In the second game, senior Kara Patterson (2-1) pitched her second straight complete game. Patterson allowed only one earned run, seven hits, walked three and struck out one.
Freshman Sydney Hodorff hit her second home run of the season with one out in the second for a 1-0 lead. Gravett drove in two more as part of a three-run fourth inning to make it 4-0.
Meredith got a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to cut the Panthers' lead to 4-2. Patterson got the final out of the game with runners on second and third in the seventh.
The Panthers host Judson in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
